This year I was finally able to attend Caribana, a festival of Caribbean culture and traditions held each summer in the city of Toronto, & OVO Fest for the first time. After several years of seeing amazing photos and footage, 3 friends and myself booked an Airbnb just 10 minutes away from downtown, got our flights and went out there. All visiting for the first time, to say this trip was a blast would be an understatement.
Everyone in Toronto was very friendly, from our UBER driver who picked us up from the airport and gave us some great history and sights along the way, yo the patrons 'on road.' As soon as we got settled 21 stories up in our apartment for the weekend with great Views, we got our tourist urges satisfied visiting downtown, Nathan Phillips Square, Old & New City Hall, the Royal Ontario a Museum, where we were able to see an amazing installation of glass art from Chihuly, and finally Ripley's Aquarium of Canada.
Day 2 of our trip was the first day of Caribana as well as my birthday and Ovo Fest. There were people from all over the country in the city for the weekend and we saw some amazing masks and costumes at the Caribana parade. The streets were filled for blocks but we managed to get into the parade and dance with the masqueraders, which I later learned was frowned upon. Everyone was in good spirits, smiling, dancing and representing their countries. After Caribana, we went to the CN TOWER, the worlds 7th tallest free standing structure 1815 feet tall, for dinner. The food was decent and the views were even more amazing. The restaurant constantly spins and after you eat you have to go outside and admire the city, which I was brave enough to do for about 2 minutes.
